For SS16, Aquascutum has evolved its signature British tailoring for the modern gentleman. In a Soho townhouse, the presentation was set amongst floral displays, which were echoed in the subtle hand embroidery on the knitwear. The collection is peppered with fine details such as contrast hand stitching, delicate jacquard weaves and mother of pearl buttons amongst the tailoring.
In keeping with John Emary’s vision for the brand, SS16 comes with Ripstop outerwear to shield against the classic British summer. The luxury still holds true, with silk clean-cut car coats strengthened with PU coating and suede under collars. No Aquascutum collection could be complete without its iconic check. For this collection it has been deconstructed and updated, used as the highlight within the outerwear as well as being applied on linen and piquet.
Inspiration for the silhouette comes from the garments designed for the Rolling Stones in the 1980’s; slim fit tailored jackets paired with narrow line trousers which end just above the ankle for a summer fresh feel. Suede blousons are hand painted and shirts made from Sea Island cotton and Voile add to the luxury of the brand.
Styling for the collection; Aquascutum has collaborated with Cutler and Gross to create sunglasses following the same understated palette of the collection, navy or matt green frames with brown and grey lenses. The classic styles fit with the polished refinement of the collection, including wayfarers and aviators with hand stitched leather detailing.
With youthful silhouettes and a reimagining of the signature check, this collection is a fresh update for the longstanding British heritage brand.
