You can always count on Ashish Gupta to make noise; it’s one of the reasons why I look forward to his show every season. From the hair and make-up alone one could deduce that the Ashish girl is up for a BIG night out – or at least on her way home from one. Some spectators may come to a seedier ‘lady of the night’ conclusion, but we’ll gloss over that.
Beneath floor-length fur coats, bomber jackets and leopard lined parkas peeked sequinned, lace-trimmed chemises, shorts, camis and bralets. Mixed patchwork fur covered jackets, bralets and midi A-line skirts, and trimmed cuffs and hems. Sequinned camo, all-over studding embellishment and thigh-high patent boots referenced 70s punk. Even denim was bleached to create a camo effect and studded, hems were left frayed. The message was clear; the Ashish girl is strong, independent and not to be messed with. There is absolutely nothing subtle or demure (or hippie) about this collection… and I think that may be my favourite thing about it.
