The Ones To Watch show at London Fashion Week is always an exciting one; it’s an opportunity to encounter all sorts of fabulous emerging designers. At AW14, George Styler was one of them. His collection brought to mind traditional Taiwanese dress with its elaborate embellishment and headwear. A vast combination of textural fabrics (that I won’t attempt to decipher or list) came together in collision of colour and beautiful intergalactic chaos.
In contrast to the ethnic inspired elements was the inclusion of houndstooth and little images of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. There were also metallics, fish, florals, hearts…. it sounds crazy but it looked great. Out of the big fashion four, London is often considered the city of eccentricity and off-the-wall fashion, and George Styler’s collection definitely fitted into those categories. Ok so maybe his designs won’t be winning any wearability awards, or inspiring the high-street retailers come the autumn, but they made for a hell of a show and I look forward to seeing more from him in the future.
