Amidst the hustle and bustle of Somerset House Courtyard an oversized, structured, leather backpack in block colours caught my eye. It was sat comfortably on the back of a tall dark and handsome type, who no sooner than I had spotted him, went trotting off into the crowd. Anonymous covetable backpack was gone. Luckily, a stroll through the London Fashion Week Exhibition later that day let me to the bag’s creators, the fabulous Hemsley London, and all was right with the fashion world again.
The Hemsley collection comes in a range of sizes and colour combinations but always stays true to that sturdy hexagonal design. Although there is a shoulder bag variant, the backpack is a more natural fit for that aesthetic and unashamedly steals the show. Each bag is charmingly named after a UK location; Mayfair, Buckingham, Warrick, Hampshire. My personal favourite has to be the Mini Derby in the alabaster, white and black combination, although its big bright yellow SS14 cousin the Derby Backpack is also pretty hot.
Oh right, yeah sorry… did I forget to mention the iPad / iPhone flap?! Seriously. It’s insane. Hemsley has especially designed this feature for tech-lovers, fully equipping the modern fashionista for Tweeting, blogging and Instagraming about Fashion Week on the go. Not that I have any particular fashionista in mind or anything…
