Bold shapes dominate the Kilian Kerner premium collection for AW14 with oversized lapels, voluminous sleeves and structured A-line skirts providing a strong and dominating silhouette. The looks give a sense of confidence and defiance; a stubbornness… The Killian Kerner woman is not to be messed with.
The underlying gothic flavour (accentuated by leather gloves, black army boots and dark lipstick) nods to Kerner’s German heritage. There is also something of the Berlin punk, perhaps a moment of nostalgia for the late 70s / early 80s era? Despite this moody retro undertone, Kerner’s use of fabrics, pattern, quilting and contrasting texture, combined with a colour palette of dusty pink, mustard and rusty reds and oranges, provides a contemporary twist.
Already a huge hit in his native country, Kerner’s collections are becoming increasingly well-known in the UK with the brand’s Senses diffusion line just launched in House of Fraser for SS14. For the AW14 collection, this line continues to explore patterns and prints, including a modern camouflage print and playful heart print. This latest edition of the Senses line pays homage to three inspirational cities (London, New York and Berlin) picking up a vibe of metropolitan urban understatement.
