An ode to summer holidays and Coca Cola, Kit Neale has encapsulated all that we Brits love about travelling ‘abroad’ for SS15. Playful nostalgia runs throughout the collection both in print and cut; dungarees with block coloured front pockets and knee patches, a pink and yellow horizontal striped jumper that’s reminiscent of ice cream blocks, illustrated cactus prints and an aeroplane motif tee… (The nod to air travel continues with a genius print based on aeroplane safety instructions). Trousers are turned up at the ankles, whilst button-up shirts are used as either over or under layers.
The Coca-Cola inspired pieces are an exclusive range, created after gaining access to the brand’s iconic imagery and transforming it into vibrant and eye-catching prints. The Kit Neale team said that the choice to incorporate Coca-Cola into the collection came from the drink being an integral part of holiday memories. As well as the prints, the models wore Coca-Cola bottle cap earrings. The inclusion of the brand, both conceptually and in the way it has been manifested in the design, brings an element of pop-art to the collection; not enough for it to be the overriding flavour, but rather a sweet aftertaste.
As part of a collaboration with British jewellery brand Tatty Divine, a range of googley eyed ‘Little Monsters’ were hung from the garments. The three perspex characters have each been named after tropical resorts; an adorable final touch to a cute collection.
