LCF FASHION MAKER LIBRARY.

The London College of Fashion Maker Library, in collaboration with the British Council, invites the public to join LCF staff, alumni and guest designers to make shoes during the London Design Festival. It will be based at LCF’s Golden Lane site, home to the world-renowned Cordwainers and which houses LCF’s BA Footwear and MA Fashion Footwear courses.

Maker Libraries are creative spaces that combine reading, showing and making. They are defined by three key elements: a library, a makespace and a gallery. Each Maker Library can connect over an online platform which also provides access to open source designs and mentoring resources.

The Maker Library will host a series of workshops which will explore all aspects of footwear-making, from traditional techniques through to experimental design processes. Workshops will be hosted by designers from many facets of footwear design; right from the experimental modernist approach of Marloes Ten Boehmer, through to the fashion-led work of Atlanta Weller. Alongside these workshops, there will also be tours of the Golden Lane site by students and technicians – participants will be given demonstrations of the different stages of the shoe-making process and the equipment used.

The programme has been developed by Eelko Moorer (Course Director, MA Fashion Footwear at LCF) and Alison Moloney (Curator, International Exhibitions Programme at LCF) to extend the opportunity of experiencing and understanding the processes behind footwear making. This is in keeping with the spirit of the Maker Library Network which promotes collaboration and knowledge – sharing in creative spaces that combine reading, showing and making.

Workshops and tours are free and can be booked via the website, where you can also find a full list of workshops, talks and tours. This event will be taking place at Cordwainers at London College of Fashion Golden Lane, EC1Y 0UU from
Saturday 13th – Saturday 20th September 2014.
