MINNAN HUI. AW15.

Up and coming designers in London don’t exactly enter the industry quietly; they’re more hit you in the face, screaming and shouting rather than sitting back and quietly announcing their presence. This could be said for young designer Minnan Hui who presented her AW’15 collection at the much celebrated Fashion Scout.  A graduate of the prestigious Central Saint Martins, Minnan launched her eponymous label back in 2013 and is already making quite the name for herself, attracting interest from international buyers in Dubai, Taiwan and Italy to name a few. When you look at her designs it’s easy to see why there is so much interest and why celebrities such as Grayson Perry and Lady Gaga are fans.

For AW’15 Minnan named her collection after the Greek myth Pandora’s Box, but not in your usual sombre Autumn Winter colour palette. No. This collection was bright and bold in reds, blues, white yellow and greens, with hints of black and with a theme of detailed packaging, embroidered oversized ropes and geometric shapes throughout. Minnan’s talent for manipulating fabrics was all very apparent, as tops and dresses were ruched, pleated and ruffled. This was no quiet introduction to London Fashion Week; this was a hit you in the face, screaming and shouting arrival.
