Did anyone get the new beauty memo? According to all sources, (no, it’s not raining men)….gel is out, healthy nails are in. Yes, among the buzz of Olympia Beauty last week, the scent of lacquer was in the air but one in particular grabbed my attention. Most of the stands were indeed Gel focused, but it seems consumers are wising up to the damage that frequent gel manicures can cause.
Cue hot new brand ‘Nailberry’. The brainchild of Sonia Hully, a French-born, animal-loving, creative genius, Nailberry is a manicure showstopper without any baddies to boo. Boasting a ‘5 free of chemicals’ strapline, Nailberry’s latest L’Oxygene collection is also animal cruelty free and permeable to water and air. Win win win!
The first collection of Nailberry varnishes launched in 2013, two years after the Chelsea salon of the same name opened it’s doors. Launching their first ‘4-free of chemicals’ line in 2013, Nailberry have since come a long way. Now stocking spas and salons in all of Europe and available online and in stores such as Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Anthropologie.
Now for the science bit – Nailberry doesn’t contain formaldehyde, DBP, toluene, synthetic camphor, or formaldehyde resin. All of which are as corruptive to your nails as they sound. The new L’Oxygene formula allows air and water to pass through the nail as they would naturally. This however doesn’t mean to say they attack the polish and wear it down – L’Oxygene polishes are highly adherent to the nail with Oxygen Resin-Complex with Advanced Oxygen Technology.
Now for the un-science bit – they come in THE most beautiful, elegant shades. From damsel red ‘Coquine’ to lush ‘Minty fresh’ to ‘Honesty’ a nude Kimmy K would (honestly) be jealous of. Their beautiful nude shade ‘Au Naturel’ even featured in the S/S 16 Felder and Felder show. The branding is a hail to Jo Malone and Chanel – black and white, sophisticated and simple.
I just had to try out the quality for myself – someone has to do the research! After my manicure at the Olympia Beauty show, my nails in the neutral lilac shade ‘Mystere’, from their previous 2014 collection that was featured in LFW, were still going strong 6 days in. The application and stay is that of gel, but my nails still feel natural and strong after take-off. I am hooked and now have purchased ‘Au Natural’ to try amongst many others.
So, if you can get nails to be jealous of in this season’s shade that are good for you and cruelty-free, it’s a true beauty-no-brainer! You can all thank me later (but don’t send your angry bank managers my way!)
