In the trendy East London setting of The Rag Factory, Simon Ekrelius unveils his capsule collection for AW14, Monochromatic, inspired by model and photographer Lee Miller. Silk features heavily and adds a sense of demure sophistication and mystery to 3/4 length sleeved jumpsuits with wrap over fronts. There is a delicacy that is accentuated by sheer panels and softly rounded shoulders.

There are also some more structured pieces that lean less towards the art-deco inspiration, instead picking up a more scandinavian vibe. Although Simon Ekrelius is a London based British designer, he was educated in Sweden so it is unsurprising that this undertone is present.

As for the monochrome colour palette, collections that opt for this can sometimes feel flat and lacking in flavour, but Ekrelius’ use of contrasting fabrics, textures, tones and print give the collection plenty of variation and points of interest.
