Cosy, comfy, classic is how we would describe the Whistles debut menswear collection; set to launch in stores in time for Autumn/Winter this year. There’s a hint of modernity peeking out from behind the classic style too though, with the focus on timeless designs kicked into a contemporary context. Cue unexpected pops of pink and blue against a uniform base of muted colours, including navy, black and grey.

The pieces are versatile, with chunky, hand-knitted sweatshirts and a variety of jackets to suit different styles. The thinking seems to be that comfort and a relaxed approach to style is the most modern way of dressing, much like the womenswear Whistles collections.

Highlights include an aviator-inspired, black shearing biker: a signature style for the Whistles man. It’s understated yes, but undeniably cool; an interesting alternative to the leather jacket. Meanwhile, accessories bring the pieces up to date, with navy blue and black leather compartments featuring on a back pack and hand-held bags.

From crisp Oxfords and check flannel shirts, to the more casual, textured over-shirts, the brand covers everything. Being Whistles the materials are, of course, high in luxury. From cashmere polishing the tracksuit look up a little, to roll-necks in soft, mohair blends adding a certain geek-chic to the collection. For when the weather really turns wintery there’s also fine gauge wools to wrap up in.

High-quality menswear for the modern man, Whistles provides something a little different to the high-street. The statement is in the understatement.
