YOUJIA JIN. AW15.

LCF alumni Youjia Jin transported her audience into a fairytale world with an Alice in Wonderland inspired collection. Full of muted greys and expertly constructed pieces,  the AW15 range demonstrated why minimalism always excels on the runways.

To mimic Alice, Jin created a collection for the strong-willed modern woman. The gender-neutral garments were tailored to perfection, and showcased the designers pattern cutting skills. Pleated blazers paired with white neck collars would work well in editorials but may be difficult to transition into wearable pieces.

A pale grey double breasted jacket with a cape-like train made all the photographers cameras flicker. The swing back trend continued with another notable look being  a charcoal blazer with grey fringing paired with cigarette leg trousers and black brogues. Pleats were on almost every hemline, adding a feminine touch to the unisex shapes of Youjia Jin’s work. Hints of electric blue were seen on the runway, making a connection to Alice’s iconic blue ribbon.

Although the collection lacked originality, seeming somewhat familiar to Jin’s previous season, it is hard to fault.
